The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) has awarded Aperam its Silver Safety Award. The award, which recognises Aperam’s successful SAFE programme, was awarded during a special ceremony held on 24 May 2018.

The SAFE programme aims to change employees mindsets when it comes to health and safety at the workplace. It involves five consecutive days of in-class and shop floor training. The training focuses on the day-to-day activities of employees. The goal is to help employees see on-site hazards and develop the skills needed to work with their colleagues in order to solve any identified safety issues. The initiative also helps employees understand the consequences of their actions - or inaction.

Launched in 2016 at the company’s Châtelet and Gueugnon facilities, today SAFE is used across all Aperam locations worldwide. It is now one of our main H&S initiatives in our quest to reach H&S Sustainability.

As part of its Safety Award Programme, the ISSF invites members to submit good ideas from their individual Safety Programmes. These ideas are then circulated among other members, following the simple premise that everyone can learn from the mistakes or accidents of others. The winners have the benefit of peer recognition and a Certificate that can be used in their own promotional materials. Everyone submitting an entry is recognised by having their entry included in the ISSF Annual Safety Awards Report.
